Redswing supports silent auctions run on paper bid sheets today (online and text bidding are not available yet). It has no live-auction mode and no paddle screen.
Draft for legal review: This article describes how Redswing works in plain language. It is not tax or legal advice and an attorney has not reviewed it yet. Ask your tax advisor or attorney about your own situation.
Overview
There is no screen for an auctioneer. Redswing cannot record a winning bid that you type in for someone. Live auction results are kept by your team.
Run a live auction next to your silent auction
- Keep a paper sheet for live items: item, winner name, phone, winning amount, and payment method.
- Collect payment from the winner at the event: cash, a check, or a card payment your organization takes itself.
- Record the live results in your own totals. Redswing totals will not include them.
- Issue your own acknowledgment for live items. Redswing letters cover only auction items that were won through Redswing. The IRS generally expects a written notice for a winning bid over $75, showing a good-faith estimate of the item's value (IRS Publication 1771). Ask your tax advisor what your letter must say. See Auction receipts and fair market value.
Things to know
- Do not mix the same item in both the silent and live auction.
- If you want the live results in the post-event report, tell Ask AI or add the totals to your own board report.
