If a player texts STOP, treat it as a request not to be texted. This article explains what Redswing does today and what you should do.
Draft for legal review: This article describes how Redswing works in plain language. It is not tax or legal advice and an attorney has not reviewed it yet. Ask your tax advisor or attorney about your own situation.
Overview
Scoring links and announcements go only to players who ticked the text-consent box (it starts unticked) when they registered. Anyone can text STOP to end texts and HELP for help. Carriers and federal rules expect opt-outs to be honored. Under current FCC rules, a person can opt out in any reasonable way, not only by texting STOP. A reply like "please stop texting me", an email, or telling you in person counts.
What the keywords do today
- HELP gets an automatic reply with help information.
- STOP turns off text consent for that phone number for every event, and Redswing stops texting that number. Auction text consent for the number is turned off too.
- START turns texts back on only for players who had opted in and then replied STOP.
What to do if a player says stop
- Do not text that person again, from Redswing or from your own phone, about the event. This applies however they told you: a STOP reply, other words, an email, or in person.
- Give their scoring link in person, or hand them a scorecard instead. See When phones or signal fail.
- If they told you another way (not a STOP reply), open Ask AI the same day, give the phone number, and ask for it to be marked as opted out. A person at Redswing handles it.
- Do not ask the person to opt in again at the event. Consent is a free choice.
If a player says they never signed up
- Do not argue. Ask whether they registered, or another person registered for them using their number.
- Open Ask AI and ask for the consent record on that registration and for a person to review.
- Stop texting that number until it is resolved.
If players reply STOP to the scoring text
It does not break scoring. The scoring page still works from the link. They will not get more texts, so they will not get reminders or announcements. Share the link by another way if needed.
Things to know
- Bidders who text a bid, or enter a phone number on an auction item, are not the same as registered players. Auction texts (such as outbid alerts) go to the number the bidder gave. If a bidder asks to stop, treat it the same way. See Text-to-bid troubleshooting.
- Never add someone's number to a text list unless they opted in.
