You can bring in a list you already have, so you do not type golfers in one by one. You do it yourself, and nothing is saved until you confirm.
Before you start
Create your event first at redswing.io/start. The import adds golfers to an event that already exists.
The steps
- Open Dashboard → your event → Golfers.
- Click Import a list (CSV or Excel).
- Choose Players or Sponsors at the top.
- Choose your CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file.
- Read the preview. It shows how many are ready to import, how many teams, how many are already paid, and how many rows were skipped. Nothing is saved yet.
- Check the column matching. For each column in your file, pick what it holds, or choose Don't import to leave it out. The preview updates as you change them.
- Click Import. The golfers appear on your Golfers page.
What gets read
For players, Redswing looks for name (or first and last name), email, phone, handicap, shirt size, team and a payment column. The column names do not need to match exactly. Anything it guesses wrong, you fix on the preview screen.
- Already paid. If your file has a payment status column (paid, comp, unpaid), match it to Payment status and paid golfers are recorded as paid. Rows marked comp are recorded as comp. Golfers with no payment information show as waiting to be paid: use Mark paid on the Golfers page when you have the money.
- Refunded, revoked or cancelled. Those rows are left out, and the preview tells you how many.
- Teams. A team or foursome column puts golfers on the same team, up to 4 golfers each. A golfer with no team is imported on their own, and you can pair them up afterwards. If a file lists more than 4 for one team, the extra golfers are skipped with a note.
- Sponsors. Choose the Sponsors tab. Redswing looks for company, tier, amount, hole, contact and paid columns.
- Duplicates. Two rows with the same email count once, and a golfer already on your event is shown as "already here" instead of being added again.
Texts
Imported golfers are never signed up for text messages. Redswing does not carry text consent over from a file, so each golfer has to opt in themselves.
What it costs
Free to run your tournament. Sign-ups, pairings, scoring, leaderboard and check-in are free. When card payments open, golfers who pay online add a $5 booking fee at checkout (or you can cover it). 0% on sponsorships, auction, add-ons and donations.
Limits
- CSV or Excel .xlsx files, up to 2 MB.
- Up to 2,000 rows per file. For a longer list, split it and import in two goes.
- The older Excel format (.xls) is not supported. In Excel choose Save As and pick Excel Workbook (.xlsx) or CSV.
- If an Excel file has more than one sheet with data, you pick which sheet has your list.
Export your list from where it lives now
These steps come from each company's help pages as of 2026-11-04. Menu names can change, so if a button has moved, look for the nearest match.
Eventbrite
Eventbrite's Attendee Summary report exports to CSV or Excel. Open Reporting → Event reports → Attendee Summary, then export. Use Edit columns to add the answers to your custom questions, such as team name or shirt size. (Source: Eventbrite Help Center, article 761718, read as a search-result summary on 2026-11-04.) Redswing reads Eventbrite files with the same column matcher it uses for any spreadsheet. There is no special recognition, so check the matching on the preview screen.
Givebutter
Go to Transactions → Tickets → Export. Givebutter emails you a link to a CSV file. (Givebutter: how to export tickets to CSV, checked 2026-11-04.) Redswing recognizes Givebutter ticket exports automatically and shows a banner on the preview. Because the file lists tickets that were bought, a ticket price above zero is recorded as paid. Revoked tickets are left out.
Zeffy
Open your event's guest list and choose Export, which gives you an Excel file. (Zeffy: accessing and downloading your event guest list, checked 2026-11-04.) Redswing reads it with the generic column matcher, so check the matching on the preview screen.
Google Sheets
Choose File → Download, then Comma Separated Values (.csv) or Microsoft Excel (.xlsx).
GolfStatus or another tool
Export to CSV or Excel if the tool offers it. Redswing reads these files with the generic column matcher too.
Troubleshooting
- "We cannot read the older Excel format (.xls)." Open the file in Excel, choose Save As, and pick Excel Workbook (.xlsx) or CSV. Then upload that file.
- "We could not find a name column." Your file has no column Redswing could read as a name. In the column matcher, pick Name for the right column, or First name and Last name. If your sheet has a title above the headings, that is usually fine. If the headings are missing altogether, add a heading row.
- "Only the first 2,000 rows can be imported at once." Split the file in two and import each part. Golfers already imported are shown as "already here" the second time, so nothing is doubled.
- "That file is too large." Keep it under 2 MB and 2,000 rows. Delete unused columns or extra sheets and save again.
- A column was guessed wrong. Change it in the column matcher. Pick Don't import for columns you do not want.
- Golfers show as waiting to be paid. Your file had no payment status column, or Redswing did not recognise the words in it. Use Mark paid on the Golfers page, or match the column and import again.
- A golfer is missing. Check the notes under the preview. Rows can be skipped for a missing name, a duplicate email, a cancelled or refunded ticket, or a team that already has 4 golfers.
