Handicaps in a scramble: team handicap and caps

How Redswing works out a team handicap in a scramble today, why it does not use allowance percentages, and how to apply your own rule.

Redswing's team handicap in a scramble is simple. If your event uses a different formula, work out the net scores yourself.

Overview

When you turn handicaps on, Redswing collects each player's handicap and shows a Net column. For a scramble, the team handicap is the average of the players' handicaps in the group, rounded. For other formats, net takes off the players' handicaps added together. There is no allowance percentage setting (such as 25 percent, 20 percent, 15 percent, and 10 percent of the four handicaps in order), and there is no handicap cap setting.

Use a different formula

  1. Decide your formula and print it on the event page and scorecard before the event.
  2. Leave handicaps off for the event so the board shows Gross only. If they are already on, ask Ask AI to turn them off. See Should I use handicaps?.
  3. At the end, calculate net yourself from the gross scores on the leaderboard and the handicaps on your registrations export.

Cap handicaps

Redswing does not cap handicaps. Decide the cap (for example, a maximum number) before the event and apply it when you work out net. If a registration has an unusual number such as 54, ask the player to confirm before the event.

Things to know

  • Handicaps are entered by the player at registration or by you. There is no GHIN lookup in Redswing.
  • Changing a handicap after registration is handled by Redswing support through Ask AI today.
  • Net ranking uses the same average for every team, so check the number your committee expects.
