Tax value warnings, explained

Why Redswing warns you when golfers pay more than the IRS limit and you haven't said what they receive, and how to clear it.

When golfers pay more than the IRS limit for a written notice and you haven't said what each golfer receives, Redswing warns you. You can still publish.

Draft for legal review: This article describes how Redswing works in plain language. It is not tax or legal advice and an attorney has not reviewed it yet. Ask your own tax advisor or attorney about your situation.

The warning

In the event wizard you may see:

You haven't entered what each golfer gets (green fees, cart, meal). Until you do, golfers won't be told how much of their payment is tax-deductible. You can publish now and add it later under Tax receipts (Registration value).

It shows when your price per golfer is over the limit and the value per golfer is not set. It's a warning, not a block.

Why it matters

  • At checkout: with a value set, golfers see a Tax deductibility notice telling them how much of their payment may be deductible. Without one, they're told nothing.
  • Letters after the event: golfer letters stay off until you enter the value or confirm donation-only. See Send tax letters to donors and golfers.

How to clear it

  1. Open the event wizard step Tax & disclosures.
  2. Enter the value of what each golfer receives (green fee, cart, meals, tee gift), or tick the box for a donation-only event if golfers receive nothing.
  3. Save. The warning goes away.

You can also set the value later on Tax receipts under Registration value.

Things to know

  • Empty is not $0. An empty value means "not set". Only the donation-only box saves $0.
  • Set it before sign-ups open if you can. Each golfer's notice and letter use the value shown when that golfer paid. Changing it later doesn't change what earlier golfers were shown.
  • Redswing doesn't decide the value. Use a good-faith estimate, and ask your tax advisor if you're unsure.

Not set up yet?

Sign-ups, pairings, scoring, leaderboard and check-in are free. Golfers who pay online by card add a $5 booking fee inside their price (or you can cover it). 0% on sponsorships, auction, add-ons and donations.
