Phone carriers require every organization that sends texts to be verified. Redswing sends your details to the carriers for you. It is one form, about five minutes, done once for all your events. Texts to your golfers work once your organization's messaging is approved.
Who can do this: anyone on your team can open it. Have the person who knows your legal details (usually an Admin) fill it in. You will need: your organization's legal name as on your IRS letter, your EIN, a website (a Facebook or Google Business page works), your street address, and a contact name and email.
Before you start
- Texts are optional. Without them, golfers still get their scoring link by QR code or a link you copy and send, and emails still go out. See Give every group its scoring link.
- Do this a few weeks before your event: approval times vary.
Steps
- Click Settings in the sidebar. Text messaging shows its status: Not set up, Under review, Active or Action needed.
- Click Text messaging. The page Set up text messaging opens.
- Fill in Legal organization name, EIN (Tax ID), Organization website, Street address, City, State, ZIP, Contact name and Contact email. Contact phone is optional. Some boxes are filled in from your organization already; check them.
- Click Submit for verification. You see "Submitted! Approval times vary; we'll email you."
What happens next
- The status reads Under review with the date you submitted. You do not need to do anything else.
- Approved: you get an email, "Your text messaging is now active", and the page says Text messaging is active, with the number your texts come from. You can now text golfers from Messages and Scoring.
- Action needed: you get an email, "Action needed to finish your text messaging setup", and the page says A bit more information needed with the reason. Correct the details and click Resubmit for verification.
Who gets your texts
Redswing only texts golfers who agreed to texts when they signed up. That box is never ticked for them, and golfers who reply STOP are not texted again. See Text-message consent and STOP and HELP: what happens.
Draft for legal review: This article describes how Redswing works in plain language. It is not tax or legal advice and an attorney has not reviewed it yet. Ask your tax advisor or attorney about your own situation.
Common problems
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Please fill in all required fields before submitting." | A required box is empty | Fill in every box except Contact phone. |
| Action needed with a name or EIN reason | The legal name or EIN does not match IRS records | Copy the name exactly as on your IRS determination letter, then resubmit. |
| Still Under review close to event day | Carrier approval takes time | Plan on QR codes and copied links for scoring. See Texts aren't going out. |
