What flights are, and whether you need them

Flights split your field into skill levels, each with its own winner. Most charity scrambles do not need them.

A flight is a set of groups of similar skill that gets its own winner. If everyone competes for one prize, use 1 flight.

The short version

  • You choose the Number of flights on the Format step. The default is 1.
  • Redswing names them Flight A, Flight B and so on.
  • With handicaps on, Flight A holds the lowest handicaps. With handicaps off, flights are just blocks of groups in the order Redswing built them. They are not sorted by skill.
  • Once two or more flights have groups, the leaderboard ranks each flight on its own.

Do you need them?

  • One trophy for the winning team: no flights.
  • Prizes for a low and a high group: two flights, with handicaps on.

What Redswing does NOT do

  • It does not re-sort teams into flights after the round.
  • Event settings has no flights setting. To change the number after publishing, open Ask AI, before you make pairings.
