Step 5, Tax and disclosures: what each golfer gets

Tell Redswing what a golfer receives (round, cart, meal) so golfers are told the right deductible amount, and understand the warning when you leave it blank.

Draft for attorney review. This is general information, not tax advice. Ask your charity's accountant or attorney what to enter.

When a golfer pays you more than $75 and gets something back (a round of golf, a cart, a meal), the charity must tell them how much of the payment may be tax-deductible. This step is where you say what they get. Redswing then works out and shows the wording.

Time: about 5 minutes. You will need: the cost per golfer of the green fee, cart, meal and any gift (ask the course).

Steps

  1. Open the Tax & disclosures step. If you set a price over $75 and have not filled this in, a yellow warning shows under the form.
  2. Type your Charity EIN (optional, appears on tax receipts). You can also add it later on Tax receipts.
  3. Fill the boxes for what each golfer receives. Leave a box at 0 if it does not apply:
    • Green fees (per player)
    • Golf cart (per player, split cost if shared)
    • Meal / lunch
    • Gifts or goody bag (if worth more than a token item)
    • Other goods or services
  4. Check the box below the boxes. It shows the Registration price, the Fair market value of goods/services and the Estimated charitable deduction per player.
  5. Check the preview text under Shown at checkout when a payment is over $75. This is the sentence golfers will read. You cannot edit it. Redswing creates it from your numbers.
  6. Optional: type a Description of goods/services, for example "18 holes of golf, cart rental, and lunch".
  7. If golfers receive nothing in return, tick Players receive no goods or services (donation-only event). Only do this if it is true.
  8. Tap Next.

The publish warning

If your price is over $75 and you leave the values empty, Redswing warns you but does not stop you from publishing. It says that until you enter what each golfer gets, golfers will not be told how much of their payment is tax-deductible. You see the warning on the Tax step, on the review step, and on a draft event's page.

What happens next

  • Golfers see the disclosure at checkout when they pay more than $75 and a value is set. It is saved on their receipt at that time.
  • The Redswing booking fee is not part of this math and is never described as tax-deductible.
  • Letters later use the value each golfer was shown at checkout.

After you publish

Open Tax receipts in the event sidebar. In Registration value, type the Fair-market value per player and tap Save, or tick Golfers receive nothing in return (donation-only). Changing it later does not change what golfers who already paid were shown.
