Quick fix (try this first): read the notes under Match your columns on the preview. Each one names the row and the reason. Nothing is saved until you tap Import, so you can fix and try again.
The file won't open
| Message | Fix |
|---|---|
| "We cannot read the older Excel format (.xls). ..." | In Excel choose Save As, pick Excel Workbook (.xlsx) or CSV, and upload that file. |
| "That file is too large. Keep it under 2 MB and 2,000 rows." | Delete unused columns and extra sheets, or split the list in two. |
| "Only the first 2,000 rows can be imported at once. ..." | Split the file and import the rest separately. Golfers already imported show as Already here the second time. |
| "That Excel file has no data. ..." | Check your list is on one of the sheets, or save that sheet as CSV. |
| "The file is empty. ..." or "The file has a header row but no data rows." | Export the sheet again; make sure the rows are there. |
The columns are wrong
- "We could not find a name column ..." Under Match your columns, choose Name for the right column (or First name and Last name). A sheet with a title above the headings is usually fine; a sheet with no headings needs a heading row.
- A column was guessed wrong. Pick the right field for it, or Don't import. One column per field: choosing a field for one column sets the column that had it to Don't import.
Some golfers didn't come in
Look at Rows skipped, Already here and the notes:
- "This row has no player name, so it was skipped." Add the name and import again.
- "... already appears on row ..., so this duplicate was skipped." The same email is in the file twice. That's intended.
- "... is already registered for this event, so was skipped." or "... is already on this event (no email to tell them apart) ..." They're already on Golfers. If it's a different person with the same name, add them with Add golfer.
- "... was skipped: team ... already has 4 players." A team can have at most 4 golfers in an import. Give the extra golfer another team name, or add them by hand.
- "... was skipped: the file says this ticket was refunded, revoked or cancelled." Intended.
The payment status is wrong
- "N rows have a payment status we did not recognize ..., so they were imported as not yet paid." Use Paid, Comp or Unpaid in the column, or match the right column to Payment status. Already imported? Use Mark paid on Golfers.
- "Some players on ... are paid and some are not. Each golfer will be added as their own sign-up ..." Intended: each keeps their own status, with the same team name.
- "... was imported, but we could not record it as paid. Use Mark paid on the Golfers page." Do that.
Still not working: the backup
Paste the rows into Or paste a list instead of uploading, or add the missing golfers one by one with Add golfer.
