What to do when a player says their scoring link never arrived, including SMS consent checks and how to share the link manually.

A player didn't receive their scoring link

When a player tells you their scoring link never showed up, you can usually get them playing again in under a minute from the Registrations list.

Overview

Players score from a text-message link that opens in their phone browser, so there is nothing for them to install. The most common reasons a link is missing are that the player has SMS consent turned off (Redswing never texts a player without consent, per TCPA), their phone number or email is entered incorrectly, or the send is still in flight. You can resolve every one of these from the event organizer dashboard.

How to fix it

  1. Open Dashboard → Events → [Event] → Registrations and find the player by name.
  2. Check their SMS consent status. Redswing never sends a text to a player who has not consented, so if consent is off, no scoring link was ever texted to them.
  3. If consent is off, copy their scoring link from the registration record and share it with them directly (read it out, email it, or send it by iMessage).
  4. If consent is on, use the resend action in the Registrations list to send the scoring link again.
  5. If their phone number or email is wrong, correct it on the registration record, then resend.
  6. As a last resort, copy the direct scoring link and text it to the player yourself so they can start scoring immediately.

Things to know

  • A missing link is almost always a consent or wrong-number issue, not a system outage.
  • The scoring link opens in any phone browser, so the player does not need to install anything.
  • Landline and VoIP numbers cannot receive texts even with consent on, so share the link another way for those players.
  • Correcting a phone number does not re-text the player automatically, so always resend after fixing it.
